April 2008 | Boy Scout Merit Badge Event | The San Joaquin Section of the chapter has taught about 25 scouts the merit badge in Landscape Architecture in four separate events since 2006. In addition to visiting offices and the ASLA web site, scouts also learned plant identification and tried their hand at measuring, drawing and redesigning a public space. April 2008 | Monrovia Nursery Offered Free Green Fee | Monrovia Nursery offered a free green fee to a member of the California Sierra Chapter. A lucky member was Monrovia’s guest at our chapter Golf Tournament on May 1st at The Ridge golf course in Auburn. |
March 2008 | Central Valley Art of Landscape Design Competition | Fresno landscape architects Robert Boro and Lee Duckering offered their services as judges at the 9th annual CVAL (Central Valley Art of Landscape) design competition held at the Fresno Home and Garden Show on March 7, 2008. Lee and Robert have been judging at the show for about six years as representatives of the Sierra Chapter. The judging is blind with different landscape companies putting on elaborate landscape vignettes. A total of about 12 judges from different constituencies including television personalities participated. Read more here. |

January 2008 | Sacramento Zoo Design Charrette | The chapter produced a number of quick concepts for the Sacramento Zoo, working with Zoo staff and interested parties. Ideas centered on creating a new entry look for the zoo, envisioning its restaurants, looking at future amenities and taking a look at more long term expansion possibilites within the Sacamento area. November 2007 | El Camino High School Charrette | Chapter members created a series of alternate designs to improve the usability and aesthetics of an entry courtyard at El Camino High School. |
September 2007 | Great Valley Center wins Olmsted Medal | The Sierra Chapter nominated the Great Valley Center for ASLA's highest award, and was honored to host an awards banquet for the Center. Read more here. |
2007 | Dan Machado named Sierra Chapter's first Executive Director. | Dan will be handling fundraising efforts, maintaining a database of Chapter records for improved continuity and acting as a permanent resource for Chapter members. Dan is a landscape architect practising in Modesto, and has been very active in the Chapter, serving in several positions on the Executive Committee. |
