Sheri Noblett, ASLA spoke recently to the Design and Technology Academy (DATA) at Monterey Trail High School. This school club is for students who are pursuing or interested in careers related to Engineering, Construction, Landscapes, and Technology. Students in grades 9th-12th are involved and able to participate in the California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) ACE program. A program in which students are able to get college credits while they complete high school courses. Approximately 140 students were in attendance.
Her talk included using the PowerPoint presentation available from the ASLA website, hand-out materials from the ASLA Career Discovery link, my own personal career path discussion and a brief Q & A session. Students asked questions like, “Is it hard?”, “Do you have to be creative?”, “What is it like working with deadlines?”, and “Do you have to have a degree in landscape architecture?”
ASLA President Perry Howard has challenged each of our members to reach out to at least one individual to promote the career of landscape architecture. Sheri has accomplished that challenge many times over.
